Hands Down Interclub September 2018

1st October 2018

We took a big team of mostly first time competitors to the Hands Down Interclub on Sunday 30th September 2018 in Chessington. The Mavericks Team from the Mini Mavericks to the Adults all represented the club to their best, and a few first places too!

The Mini Mavericks Maya, Oliver, Tomas and Viviana all had their first times competeing and did a great job doing their forms in front of a judging panel which is very daunting!

Elise Watters had her first time competing did incredibly well in the straight final after being down fought back brilliantly to take first place against an older and more experienced opponent.

It was also Alex Kucharski’s first time competing and she again did brilliantly. In a round robin she won both her fights to take 1st place.

Sudip Gurung was also a first time competitor, finishing in a draw for his light con final just losing out in the last 30 seconds sudden death.

Jon Freeman (1st Competition) was in a big category with 6 other competitors. He won his first fight, lost the second and was unfortunately injured in the 3rd round and couldn’t continue.

Chris Harvey is a more seasoned competitor and fought in the Advanced -85kg light con, won both his fights showing a massive improvement. He also fought in the points in a straight final, winning by a clear 10 points.

Sudip, Jon and Martin Connely (1st competition) all fought in the combined points against 4 other opponents in a round robin (so there were alot of fights!) Sudip took first place, Jon took the bronze and Martin just narrowly missed out on the podium after winning a few of the rounds.

Great day for the Mavericks on tour and some great new experiences in competitions for the students
