MWTA British Championships

Over the weekend of 29th April 2017, students form Mavericks Martial Arts attended the MWTA British championships in Margate.

All the students that competed came back with at least 1 medal so a fantastic result for the Mavericks Team.

Annabel Jefferies slayed both her categories. Due to a lack of competitors in her weight category she was put in for the higher weight range- all the competitors had a good 15kg on her and she came away with GOLD in both points and continuous, her opponents barely even getting a chance at a point.

Navneet Sihra won his first GOLD in a competition for points fighting- easily getting through his first round and coming up against fellow Mavericks student Iulian Preda in the final. They gave each other a good fight but ultimately Nav came out victorious. In the continuous Nav came away with a BRONZE fighting exceptionally well against a very experienced opponent.

Iulian Preda lost out on continuous after fighting very well, but he made it to the final against Nav and gave him a good fight coming back with a fantastic SILVER.

Ryan Smith won GOLD in points, fighting brilliantly against older competitors going through 3 rounds winning each comfortably, and then a BRONZE in continuous just missing out after a close round in the semi finals.

Bryan Paton won his first points fight, narrowly missing out on the win in the 2nd round by a couple of points against a strong opponent. In continuous he sailed through his first 2 rounds, and in the final showed great determination despite the long day taking its toll on his fitness. He kept going until the end just missing out on gold, but coming home with a well earned SILVER.

All in all a great day for the Mavericks Team!
