The Bristol Open 2017

17th October 2017

Great results from the Bristol Open over the weekend of 14/15th October. Due to various unfortunate circumstances the fight team wasn’t as large as we hoped but those who made it got some fantastic results at what is one of the best National competitions around.

Day 1- Light Contact

Navneet Sirha had a straight final, he fought the 2 rounds really well and took home a fantastic GOLD. Giorgio Visioli was fighting in 2 catergories: the -52kg and -47kg. In the -52kg he won the first 2 fights easily, but unfortunately lost in the semi to a very tall Irish opponent taking home a well earned BRONZE. In the -47kg he won all 4 fights comfortably to take the GOLD. Alex Kennedy took home the GOLD in his last ever national tournament winning against a super tough opponent and ending on a high.

Day 2- Points

Zak Mansfield competed in his 2nd competition, he fought brilliantly winning his first two fights, but losing out in the next ones against much more experienced opponents. Ethan Vince-Odozi was fighting in the -30kg and -37kg catergories in his first ever competition. He fought really well, especially as it was his first time in a tournament winning the first 2 rounds but unfortunatley losing out on the medal. Angelica Goodey was only fighting in her 3rd competition and already fighting in the Advanced catergory. She won her first fights in the -45kg but lost out to a very clever fighter. In the -52kg she did very well against an excellent fighter but lost. Giorgio Visioli again was fighting in the -47kg he won the first 2 fights but lost in the semi final after some very suspect decisions by 1 point. In the -52kg he beat the winner of the -47kg then lost to the UK no.1 in the quarter finals after a great display of technique and skill.  Navneet Sirha fought in the -74kg intermediate he won the first 2 fights easily but narrowly lost out in the final.
